Instagram: This is the new Carousel Mode for Reels

First users on Instagram can now see a preview of how their content would look when compiled as a reel or carousel post. This is not the only exciting new feature on the platform in the Reels area.

For a long time, carousel posts on Instagram were limited to images – now it is possible to combine videos and photos within a carousel. The platform has now started a test in which creators can see a preview of their content as a carousel and as a reel. App researcher Radu Oncescu shared screenshots of the so-called Carousel Mode on Threads.

According to Instagram, the function is intended to show creators how their media would look compiled as a video or in a regular carousel post. Both formats, according to the platform, can be recommended to other users on Instagram after publication. Although it is already possible to share different media in a reel, the new feature should help creators find the best format for their content and publish it either as a carousel or video. The function is currently not activated for all users; an official announcement by Instagram is also pending.

The new Carousel Mode is not the only innovation that Instagram is working on for the Reels area. Recently, more creators on Instagram have been able to test their Reels to users who do not follow them. The so-called Trial Reels do not initially appear in the feed of your own followers or in the profile. If the Reel performs well, it can be shared with followers either manually or automatically after 72 hours. A particularly exciting new function is also available that allows creators to create Reels from feed posts.
