Instagram will soon include a suggestions reset option that will make the app’s algorithm forget everything it thinks it knows about you will present. Meta is testing a new feature that will allow users to reset the algorithmic recommendations that run the app’s flow, Reels, and Explore section.
Although the company has released the feature as a test, it says the update will be “available globally soon.” With the change, users will be able to reset recommended content from the content preferences section in Instagram’s settings. According to Meta, this will allow you to start over and readjust the app’s recommendations.
While this feature can help you get an Instagram feed that better reflects your current interests, Meta notes that this type of reset doesn’t delete any of your data in the app or change how the company serves ads to you.
Meta frames this change as part of an effort to bring new security features to teens, though the feature will be available to all users. The company says “we want to give teens new ways to shape their Instagram experience so it can continue to reflect their passions and interests as they grow.” he says. The service has previously faced criticism over suggestions from EU regulators that it could encourage “addictive behaviour”. Let us remind you that recently, the teen accounts feature with stricter privacy settings was also introduced.
