Intel and AMD are teaming up, and there’s a good reason for it –

The rivals launch a joint project to maintain their market share.

The rise of ARM Holdings brought Intel and AMD closer than ever before. The two companies announced the other day that they are forming a joint group, primarily in order to maintain their market share.

As you know, ARM Holdings has been putting a lot of pressure on chip manufacturers lately by licensing its own architecture. THE TechInsights its recently published research, for example, predicted that by 2029 roughly 40 percent of all notebooks sold will be based on the ARM architecture.

The pressure is therefore increasing, which is also felt by competing manufacturers, and for this reason they decided to form an “advisory group”. Several major companies, including Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Lenovo, have joined the initiative.

A press release according to the initiative, the primary goal is to “improve the compatibility, predictability and consistency of the x86 product offering”. The advisory group is also seeking feedback from x86 hardware and software developers to develop “simplified architectural guidelines” to standardize the interfaces of AMD and Intel products.

Although the interests of the group are well-founded, the establishment primarily serves to reassure developers, customers and investors. The alliance symbolizes action against ARM, which will certainly be positively received by the partners of the companies.
