Intel and AMD are testing the new VGA generation with both old and new power connectors

For now, the two companies do not automatically trust the 12V-2×6 coupler, but the manufacturing partners can use it.

In the case of NVIDIA, it is already confirmed that all new GeForces will come with a 12V-2×6 power connector, but in the case of AMD and Intel, this is not so certain at all, because the prototypes of the upcoming Radeon and Arc product lines still have a traditional 8-pin PCI Express version with power socket.

Of course, the two mentioned companies are also testing the new 12V-2×6 power connector, which the manufacturing partners can certainly use, but it has not yet been decided what the new Radeon and Arc series will officially use in the end. According to our information, the reason for this is that the 8-pin PCI Express power connector still behaves more reliably in the tests, there are hardly any problems with it during the load tests, i.e. it brings the usual security. In contrast, the 12V-2×6 power connector, while much improved over the 12VHPWR, is nearly as reliable as the old option at just under 300 watts.

By the way, it puts pressure on AMD and Intel that the new power supplies are starting to switch to the new power connector, so they definitely have to move with the times, but there is a chance that certain incoming Radeon and Arc VGAs will stay with the 8-pin PCI Express socket.
