The National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR) will start a project with European funds for the installation of Intelligent Transport Systems on the A3 Highway, Târgu Mureș – Nădășelu section.
The National Road Company will start a road infrastructure modernization project on the Târgu Mureș – Nădășelu route.
An Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) will be placed on this section, which is part of the A3 Highway.
Intelligent Transport Systems on the A3 Motorway
CNAIR announced a budget of over 76 million lei for the ITS system that will be installed on the A3 Highway.
Of this amount, approximately 62.2 million lei are from European funds, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The provision of ITS systems will be carried out as follows:
- A3 highway sector Tg. Mureș – Ogra (15 km of highway + approximately 5 km of connecting road);
- Ogra – Câmpia Turzii section, ITS systems are installed and in the process of being installed, but they are not integrated into a Monitoring and Information Center (CMI).
- The Câmpia Turzii – Gilău section, with a length of 52 km, is in the operational phase. On the 52 km, neither sewerage, nor optical fiber necessary for communication, nor the necessary ITS equipment were provided, these (after installation) had to be connected to CMI Gilău and supplied with electricity;
- The Gilău – Nădășelu sector, with a length of 8.7 km, to which is added the Gilău Bridge (total 9.6 km), is equipped with ITS systems but not connected to CMI Gilău.
At the moment, within the Gilău Maintenance and Coordination Center there is no Monitoring and Information Center (CMI). The implementation of the CMI will have to take into account the connection and management of all ITS equipment.
What is the Intelligent Transport System
The Intelligent Transport System (ITS) allows drivers to be quickly informed.
Communication of information is done through variable message boards.
On these panels, drivers will be able to read real-time data about accidents, bad weather conditions, fog, poles or highway incidents.
The duration of the project’s implementation must not exceed 31.12.2026, the authorities state.
