The average interest rate on new home loan operations, which include renegotiations that did not result in default, fell again to 3.7% in July, compared to 3.75% in June, thus registering the tenth consecutive decrease. This is according to the latest data released this Monday by the Bank of Portugal.
After the interest rate on new housing loans in the Eurozone was higher than that recorded in Portugal in April, for the first time since September 2022, in July the value was in line with that recorded in the single currency countries. The average rate for Eurozone countries fell to 3.7% and “Portugal had the seventh lowest average interest rate, equaling the average”, details the national supervisor.
The average interest rate on new loans for permanent home ownership granted with a variable rate in July was 4.59% (4.72% in June) and new loans with a fixed rate fell to 3.89%.
