Internet Archive back after hacker attack

Last week, the Internet Archive suffered a hacker attack that brought the site down and visitors were greeted with warning boxes indicating that 31 million credentials would soon appear on Have I Been Pwned. Since then, the page has been unavailable, but has now been resurrected.

This page meets visitors of Archive.org for the time being.

The site is now back and it is possible to use the Wayback Machine to visit websites from the past. However, the experience is somewhat limited, as you cannot upload new pages but only read. It is also reported that the site is slow and laggy. However, it is expected that the page will be back in its previous form shortly.

The Internet Archive has been the target of a series of DDoS attacks since May of this year, but this is the first time the site has actually been brought down. It is currently still unknown who, or who, are behind the attacks. It is speculated that the site has been the target of malicious actors who do not appreciate that there is an extensive amount of historical data via the Wayback Machine.
