Intertoys in Belgian hands – Emerce

Toy chain Intertoys becomes part of the Belgian ToyChamp. The acquisition is subject to approval by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets. No active sales process has yet taken place.

Parent company MRG was approached by ToyChamp this spring. The family business has been active in toy retail since 1989. The toy chain was founded in 2001 by the Nolmans family and has 41 branches in Belgium and the Netherlands. ToyChamp is also the majority shareholder of the Belgian toy chain DreamLand with 48 stores. Intertoys has more than 200 stores in the Netherlands.

‘We are confident that the sale to ToyChamp will put the Intertoys stores in good hands. It is a great match and both formulas complement each other excellently. It is a good joining of forces. The drive and experience that the Nolmans family has in this market is very valuable,” says Ynse Stapert, CEO of MRG.

Intertoys and ToyChamp each fulfill their own role in the market. There are therefore no plans to change the existing, distinctive formulas. The management of Intertoys, consisting of Eddy Assies (CEO) and Jan Nap (CFO), also remains unchanged. They, together with the management team, remain responsible for daily management. The management team will continue to focus on further executing the existing business plan.

The transaction has no consequences for employment at Intertoys.

Parent company Mirage Retail Group (MRG) has been trying to sell activities for some time. Earlier this year, the company looked for a buyer for Blokker. Last May, Blokker, which consists of approximately four hundred stores, reached an agreement on a three-year refinancing of 35 million euros with the American lender Gordon Brothers, securing the future of the chain.
