It took Ken (32) of the group ‘VIXX’ two years to change his singing style. For a singer, changing his singing style is like changing his fingerprints. Ken, whom we recently met at a cafe in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, said, “I’m still trying to improve. In the past, I just sang without learning, but now I think my voice, which I want to approach with sincerity, has changed a lot.” Ken’s second mini album ‘PUZZLE’ released on the 26th is the result of his constant efforts.
The album includes the title song ‘Cinnabro’, which highlights the band’s sound, as well as ‘Bye My Only Universe’, ‘Even After This Night Passes’, ‘Make Me Strong’, and ‘Dear Little Star’. It contains five songs, including ‘Little Star’.
Ken said, “I wanted to try band music properly, and a good opportunity arose so I decided to try it. The more I research, the closer I feel to band music.” After turning solo in 2020, he has always presented ballads with a serious atmosphere, but this time he tried to change to a song that can be listened to with a smile.

The title song ‘Cinnabro’ is a rock genre with a strong and emotional band sound. As it means ‘little by little,’ the feeling of love that deepens as time passes is expressed through lyrical lyrics. The gentle piano sound that opens the song goes well with Ken’s appealing voice.
“I think the title song suits me well. In the past, there were some limited ways to express things to fans, but as I gradually broke down those things, I think I’m developing a true love for my fans and a desire to reach out to the public. The last track, ‘Dear Little Star’, is a song that Ken participated in writing lyrics for the fandom Aegibyeol. Ken’s sincerity towards his fans can be felt, such as ‘I love you today and I love you even more tomorrow’, ‘If I were a shining star like you, I would have fallen in love with you unconditionally’. The recording was done with the neck locked. I thought, ‘What if I sang a song to my fans as soon as I woke up?’
When asked about the meaning of fans, Ken recalled the time when he debuted in 2012. Ken said, “When I was young, I thought it would definitely do well, but in reality, it wasn’t like that. From the time I had two or three fans, I learned a lot about the importance of it.” Early this year, when I left Jellyfish Entertainment, where I had worked for 11 years, I clearly felt that I was receiving a lot of love from my fans.
“I was working alone until I joined the company. (Last April) I held a fan concert alone with the concept of a wedding, and the fans also helped me. I was moved by seeing them keep order and other basic things.
