Introducing Meta’s budget-friendly VR headset and first AR glasses –

Based on the unveiled devices, it is quite clear what the company sees the future as.

Recently, Meta held its annual Connect conference in Menlo Park, California, where a lot of new things were presented, focusing on virtual reality and artificial intelligence-based solutions.

At the event, Meta’s long-rumored, well-priced Quest 3S headset with augmented and virtual reality functions, AR glasses called Project Orion were presented, but in addition to these, the smart glasses born through collaboration with Ray-Ban also received some exciting new functions.

Meta Quest 3S

Let’s start with Meta’s affordable Quest 3S headset, which with its starting price of $300 (approx. HUF 107,000 without taxes) can enter the market with particularly good chances. The device uses the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor as in the base model, so the step back will be felt mainly in the display modules (the Quest 3S is equipped with LCD panels with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 and a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz, compared to the Meta Quest 3’s 2064 x 2208 pixel displays).

According to Meta, there have been no changes on the software front either, so much so that the well-priced device will also support Quest 3’s entire game and application library. The 128GB version of the Quest 3S starts at $300, but a 256GB model will be available for $400. Additionally, the company announced that it will drop the price of the 512GB Quest 3 from $650 to $500.

Project Orion

Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting moments of the conference was when Meta presented a prototype of its first AR glasses. Orion is a pair of thick-framed glasses that, when worn, display a head-up display in front of users, with which they can interact. Thanks to the seven sensors built into the frame, the device will also be able to track hands and eyes.

About the glasses The Verge made an exclusive, nearly 8-minute long video; you can see this below.

Ray-Ban smart glasses

Last but not least, the company’s surprisingly popular Ray-Ban smart glasses also appeared, for which Meta announced a series of new AI functions.

Users will soon be able to set reminders and scan QR codes while wearing the device, and more apps such as Spotify, Amazon Music and Audible will soon be integrated into the stylish smart glasses.

In addition to these, the possibility of live translation with glasses will be introduced sometime later, but according to Meta’s promise, this year – English, Italian, French and Spanish languages will be supported initially.
