Samsung Newsroom sat down with Helen Nam and Dongi Kim from the Wearable Product Planning Group of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Devices Division to find out how the new Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro headphones came to be.
To wearing comfort through 3D ear data and AI
Q: What was most important when planning the Galaxy Buds3 series?
Nam: For the Galaxy Buds3 series of headphones, we had an internal goal of planning new products from scratch – instead of improving on previous versions. Comfort is the most important factor for the Galaxy Buds series of headphones because ergonomic comfort is the foundation of superior sound quality and ease of use. Since the human ear is as unique as a fingerprint, we have conducted extensive research on ear shape and collected various 3D ear data. Based on those results, we managed to come up with a new design that is more comfortable.

Q: How did Galaxy AI influence the planning of the Galaxy Buds3 series?
Kim: Our goal was to offer each individual user a personalized listening experience with AI. When users wear the Galaxy Buds3 series of headphones, the active noise cancellation (ANC) function and sound are enhanced based on AI-based algorithms that analyze the differences in sound in real time through the internal and external microphones. The Galaxy AI perfectly rounds off the wearability and functionality of the new exterior design.

Nam: Thanks to Galaxy AI, the communication experience offered by the Galaxy Buds3 series of headphones has been significantly improved. In particular, call quality is improved by AI technology being able to recover the caller’s voice in different noise conditions. Likewise, listening mode can be used as a translation function when connected to a Galaxy smartphone.(1)
Superior sound quality in combination with optimal use
P: What do you remember most from the planning process?
Kim: We visited different speaker stores and listened to different types of these devices to get an idea of the sound quality. In addition, we attended professional audio seminars led by a famous professor and applied various methods to obtain state-of-the-art ultra-high-fidelity sound. We are glad that our efforts have been rewarded by the positive reactions of users who know that they appreciate a balanced sound in the entire tonal range.
Nam: I remember user evaluations during the early stages of production. According to our research, many of them wanted detailed control over the sound and noise cancellation – so we added a special function that allows them to adjust the equalizer (EQ) and noise control to their liking. User reactions collected at the beginning of product development were very important to us. Also, I would like to thank the developers for their active support throughout this process.

Q: What is your favorite feature of the Galaxy Buds3 series?
Nam: I want to highlight voice commands (Voice Command) – a feature that allows users to control the Galaxy Buds3 series of headphones with their voice, without having to touch the smartphone or the headphones themselves. When users’ hands are busy washing the dishes or taking out the trash, they can adjust the volume, change the music, or even answer calls with a simple voice command. Each function of the Galaxy Buds3 series of earphones has been carefully designed to meet the different needs of users.
Into the future with sound innovations
Q: How would you describe the new Galaxy Buds3 series in one word or sentence?
Kim: For me, this project is a combination of my passion and my profession. As someone who loves and is truly interested in audio products, I made sure that the Galaxy Buds3 series of headphones offered the best performance. The Galaxy Buds3 series of headphones is a product that I sincerely recommend to everyone.
Nam: I would say that it is like a “vitamin”. From planning to launch, I felt great energy during every stage of development of the Galaxy Buds3 series. I hope that users will also immerse themselves in this new world of sound and gain vitality with Galaxy Buds3 Pro headphones.
Q: What’s next for the Galaxy Buds series?
Nam: We want to develop the Galaxy Buds series as a product that uses AI to better understand individuals. In addition to perfect sound tailored to each individual user, we hope that this device can offer improved solutions for users in various fields, including translation.
Kim: Sound innovation never stops. We constantly collaborate with developers to improve the richness and authenticity of the sound. We appreciate the continuous support and interest of our users.
