Economy. Government investigator John Hassler, professor of macroeconomics and home owner in Stockholm, will propose easing the amortization requirements in order to raise Swedish housing prices, reports TT.

After the interest rate cuts of the past few months, the prices of Swedish housing are largely back to previous record levels, but on the other hand, new price records are no longer being broken every month, which the government wants to do something about.

– The rules we have today reduce the demand for housing. If the government loosens the rules, demand will increase, says Hassler at a press conference today.

Higher housing prices were one of the Moderates’ election promises, and the Sweden Democrats have also pushed the issue.

However, both the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Riksbank have been critical of a discontinued amortization requirement.
