President Klaus Iohannis gave a speech on Wednesday, July 24, at the Cotroceni Palace, on the occasion of the reception of the heads of diplomatic missions, the heads of consular offices and the directors of Romanian cultural institutes on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy.

However, his speech was interrupted by a phone that rang.

Iohannis began his speech by thanking the heads of diplomatic missions for their involvement and took stock of his 10-year mandate.

“In these ten years, we managed to achieve, through our joint efforts, as a team, a series of valuable successes for Romania and for the well-being and especially the safety of Romanian citizens. Diplomatic action was dynamic and substantial

At the end of these 10 years of mandate, I can say with full conviction that the identity

Romania has gained substantially on the external level, and the profile of our country has grown perhaps even exponentially. Romania has become a credible, involved and respected regional, European and international actor, a provider of stability and security.

Together we managed to build opportunities, to act decisively, to defend our strategic interests and to make the membership of the European Union and NATO or multilateral or regional formats fruitful.

Romania has streamlined cooperation with partners with whom it shares the same values, visions and objectives at the international level and has reduced or even eliminated dependence on actors who have contrary approaches”, declared the head of state.

At that moment, a phone was heard ringing from the hall. The head of state tried to continue his speech, but stopped, visibly irritated.

“Complicated with the phones, Mr. Ambassador…”, declared Iohannis.

Afterwards, the head of state continued his speech.
