Although Apple is taking a long time to present the hottest new features in its iOS, the truth is that people are curious about what new AI is coming. This possibly explains why the adoption rate of iOS 18.1 is twice as fast as that of iOS 17.1.
Apple Intelligence... the culprit?
There are a lot of good news that are already reaching iOS 18.1 users outside the EU. If before the operating system was already good, robust and safe, with the new foundations in AI, Apple says it is even much more sophisticated.
So, the Cupertino company will certainly be proud of the week of launches it had. It's been a long time since we've had a week like this, when on Monday iOS 18.1 was officially released and the new iMacs were revealed, on Tuesday the new Mac mini M4 was announced, and finally on Wednesday it was revealed the new MacBook Pro with the M4 chip.
In an interview published a few hours ago, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that, in the same period since the release of iOS 18.1, his adoption rate is twice as high as that of iOS 17.1 last year.
iOS 18.1 has higher adoption rate than iOS 17.1
Typically, Apple publishes adoption or installation rates for new operating systems a few months after the new operating system is officially released. It's a way to measure the popularity of new iOS versions to see how quickly and how many new updates are downloaded.
Higher adoption rates indicate that more users are installing the updates for a variety of reasons: new devices, a desire to try new features, etc. And the advantage of iOS 18.1 is the arrival of Apple Intelligence, something that could increase the adoption rate.
And everything seems to indicate that yes, since yesterday in an interview with CNBCTim Cook, the CEO of Apple, announced that the iOS 18.1 adoption rate in just four days had doubled compared to iOS 17.1 in the same time period. This is the only official information from Apple regarding this value since the launch of iOS 18.1, as the website where this data can be checked has not yet been updated.
What is the reason for this high adoption rate?
There is no doubt that one of the culprits is Apple Intelligence in the countries where it is available. However, this data must be taken with caution, as it's not just the rate of downloads that matters, but the final number of devices that end up with iOS 18.1, regardless of what day they do so.
Perhaps the craze of the moment is to achieve a high rate of downloads in the days leading up to the launch and, in a few days, reach a level of downloads. We just have to wait and see what the official numbers are in a few weeks.
