Yesterday Apple released iOS 18.1 beta 5, the next major update that Apple has been working on for months. This is a big release because it will include the first Apple Intelligence features. However, there are many other features, beyond the AI-based features, that will be coming to our iPhones and iPads with this update. Among them, the iPhone Mirroring Tool which allows users to mirror the screen of our iPhone on our Mac. And in this fifth beta of iOS 18.1 Apple has added a feature that we saw at WWDC24: the ability to drag files between both devices using iPhone Mirroring.

iPhone Mirroring with Drag and Drop Coming in iOS 18.1

The iPhone Mirroring function will arrive in iOS 18.1 as we have been seeing in the latest betas of the operating system. However, what we did not know is that this tool was going to have other additional functions in this next version. It is about the ability to drag files between iPhone and Mac once the tool is deployed. That is, it activates a flow of information and data accessible from the Mac screen.

It is a feature that we were already able to see in the presentation of iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia at WWDC24. It allows, among other things, to be able to download in Our Mac an image from our iPhone by simply dragging or send a video stored on our Mac by simply dragging it to the screen of our iPhone using iPhone Mirroring. This file dragging feature has been included in iOS 18.1 beta 5 which means it will reach our devices in no time.

Remember that to use this tool both the iPhone and the Mac must have the latest versions installed (in the current case, the beta versions of iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, as well as a Mac with Apple Silicon or Intel with T2 security chip. Apple also requires that the Mac not be using AirPlay or Sidecar at the time iPhone Mirroring is deployed.
