iOS 18.1 beta 5, here are all the new features

Apple has released iOS 18.1 beta 5 for developers, introducing several new features and improvements. Among the new features are updates to the Control Center, improvements to the Camera Control on iPhone 16, and other small changes.

iOS 18.1 beta 5 is available for testers with build number 24B5055e. Registered developers can download it by going to Settings > General > Software UpdateiPadOS 18.1 beta 5, macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta 5, watchOS 11.1 beta 2, tvOS 18.1 beta 2, and visionOS 2.1 beta 2 have also been released.

Control Center Changes

  • New connectivity toggles: added two new dedicated switches for Wi-Fi e VPNwhich can be added to the Control Center.
  • Reset layout: introduced a button that allows you to restore the default layout of the Control Center if you are having difficulty customizing it. This option is available in Settings > Control Center.

RCS support expansion

iOS 18.1 beta 5 expands support RCS (Rich Communication Services) to new operators worldwide, including, but not yet in Italy.

Camera Control per iPhone 16

iPhone 16 users will find a new Camera Control option after updating to iOS 18.1, which now lets you switch between the rear and front-facing cameras directly by tapping the button on the side of the device.

Improvements to iPhone Mirroring

With iOS 18.1 beta 5 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, Apple has enabled support for the drag and drop of files between iPhone and Mac while using the function iPhone Mirroring. This feature is not yet available in Italy.

Improvements to Apple Intelligence

In the app Notea dedicated button has been added for Writing tools in the toolbar, which was previously accessible only by highlighting text. Remember that Apple Intelligence is not yet available in Italy.

Other changes in iOS 18.1 beta 5

Other small news:

  • Apple Watch app icon slightly modified.
  • Interfaccia Sign-in Security updated in Settings > Apple Account.
  • New action in the Quick Commands to open the Control Center.
  • A new icon for Apple Intelligence in dark mode is now visible in Settings.
  • When you first open Messages after the update, a pop-up appears introducing new Apple Intelligence features (where available).

Apple is expected to release a new beta of iOS 18.1 within a couple of weeks.
