iOS Dark Mode arrived a few years ago. However, the next step in customization is coming with iOS 18 as Apple has introduced new home screen customization features with dark icons. Most native apps already have their version of a dark mode icon and little by little developers will have to implement these icons. However, what happens with those that do not have a dark version? Apple has found the solution thanks to the implementation in beta 3 of iOS 18 of a new technology that allows automatically creating dark version icons for those apps that do not have them.

Easier dark mode in iOS 18 beta 3

iOS 18’s dark icons can be modified in several situations. The first is in automatic mode, detecting when to start the standard mode or the dark mode based on the time. On the other hand, a permanent activation of the dark mode without the need to have a pre-set time. And the other, through the tinting function that allows you to tint all the icons with the same color or shade.

In iOS 18 beta 3, Apple has gone a step further with its dark mode and app icons in dark mode. When we activate this mode, those apps that did not have a dark version would remain in their native form, slightly distorting the homogeneity of the home screen. This is achieved through what appears to be artificial intelligence technology that inverts colors by changing white to black. and detecting the content of the logo.

In this way, Apple manages to change icons in its standard version to a dark version even when the developer has not implemented this alternative. Icons that are not clear for this new Apple feature will have their brightness dimmed. to try to maintain homogeneity without having to completely change its design.
