iOS 18 lets users “feel the music”

iOS and iPadOS 18 released in September bring several accessibility features dedicated to the hearing area. The feature we’re covering today is called “Music with Haptics.” Basically it’s the feeling of music on your skin!

Music with haptics: Feel the music on your skin

This feature allows users with hearing impairments to understand the rhythm of music through the vibrations of their device, and is available in apps such as Apple Music, and Apple provides an API so that other developers can integrate this feature into their applications.

The “Music with Haptics” option in iOS 18 allows users to physically feel the music through vibrations synchronized with the audio, provided by the Taptic Engine do iPhone.

This feature is especially beneficial for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, offering a sensory experience that complements hearing.

Compatibility:

  • Available on iPhones 12 and later, except iPhone SE (3rd generation).
  • Requires iOS 18 or later versions.

And how can we activate this option?

  1. Access app Definitions no iPhone;
  2. Select Accessibility;
  3. Tap Music with haptics and activate the option.

And how can we use it?

While playing a compatible song, a specific icon will appear on the Now Playing screen and in Control Center. Tap this icon to temporarily activate or deactivate the function.

Apple Music provides dedicated playlists to take advantage of this feature, such as “Haptic Hits” and “Haptic Bass.”
