Update:
The iPadOS 18 update can be downloaded and installed directly from the device. To do this, go to your phone’s Settings, go to General, and then to Updates. Finally, press Download and Install. The second way is to connect your device to your computer, launch Finder, select your iPad from the list, then click General, select Check for Updates, and accept.
Home screen
- App icons and widgets can be flexibly placed anywhere on the home screen, such as along the bottom edge or on the side, to create the perfect layout for every page.
- Dark icons introduce a darker aesthetic to your Home screen. They can be displayed always or only when you switch your iPad to Dark Mode.
- Icons and widgets can be tinted any color. iPadOS can suggest a color that matches your wallpaper.
- App icons and widgets can be displayed larger by turning off the names underneath them.
Photos
- The redesigned Photos app has seen the biggest changes, now featuring a simplified layout with everything in a single view.
- Collections automatically organizes your library by topic. You can view them as collages, grids, memories, or in map view.
- You can reorder sets, add and remove them, and pin them so you always have them at hand in the Pinned Sets section.
- The groups in the People & Animals collection contain photos of your favorite people and animals that often appear together.
- The Trips collection automatically groups photos from your trips, allowing you to easily return to them.
- The Recent Days collection lets you view recent photos organized by day, hiding unnecessary things like screenshots.
- The filter button on the grid allows you to filter specific types of media or your favorites, as well as hide screenshots.
- The playback speed tool lets you slow down high frame rate video, with the ability to choose where the effect starts and ends.
- The Other Stuff section contains additional useful collections such as Documents, Receipts, and QR Codes, as well as things you’ve recently edited, viewed, and shared.
- The Recovered album in the Other Stuff section contains photos on your device that are no longer visible due to corruption in the locked album database.

Control center
- The redesigned Control Center includes convenient tool groups, lets you organize tools any way you want, and supports tools from third-party apps.
- Tool groups are accessible by swiping along the right edge of the screen. They include the tools you use most often, as well as tools for home, media, and connectivity. You can also create new groups.

- The ability to collapse sections helps simplify long notes by hiding text within them. Want to shorten your longest notes? Just tap next to the section header.
- Highlighting text in your notes using any of five colors allows you to draw attention to specific text.
Calculator
- Math Notes lets you solve expressions, use variables, and create graphs by typing or handwriting.
- Math sentences written in handwriting (horizontally or vertically) with Apple Pencil in math notes view are solved automatically. Solutions appear immediately after typing an equal sign.
- Math sentences typed using the keyboard in math notes view and in other apps, such as Messages and Mail, are solved automatically. The results appear as suggestions above the keyboard.
- Variables let you assign values to different words and letters, such as “x=10,” and then use them to quickly solve math expressions and create graphs.
- Graphs help you visualize handwritten or keyboard-typed equations. They can be zoomed, panned, scaled, and combined to display multiple equations simultaneously.
- Previous calculation history allows you to quickly return to previous calculations and copy their results for use in other applications.

- The Passwords app displays all your website and app authentication information in one place, making it even easier to access your passwords, keys, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes.
- You can create two-factor authentication verification codes directly in the Passwords app, and then copy or autofill them in Safari without opening the authenticator app.
- Accounts saved in the Passwords app are securely synced to iCloud using end-to-end encryption, so you can access them on your other devices.
- iCloud Passwords for Windows lets you access your passwords across your Windows devices.
SharePlay
- You can send screen sharing requests during FaceTime calls or in the Messages app.
- When you share your screen, you can tap and draw directly on the other person’s screen, helping your friends and family do the right thing on their devices.
- Helping someone else can be more direct—you can ask for permission to remotely control their device so you can do things yourself. Only friends can send remote control requests, and actions performed by the device owner always take precedence over actions performed remotely.
