iPhone 16 Pro Max took part in gaming tests with Apple A18 Pro

Apple has shown more care this year with regard to the iPhone 16 Pro series and the part of heat dissipation inside it. As the popular company describes, they chose graphene to improve the heat dissipation issue. With the A18 Pro chipset in addition to better temperature control, the new phone aims to offer an overall improved performance and stability. However, how well does it compare to Android flagships that feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets?

A recent test pits the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 against the A18 Pro in the popular Genshin Impact game. The results are amazing.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max showed a marked improvement over its predecessor, but compared to a unit Red Magic 9S Pro which is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and has an active cooling system, clearly emerged as the big winner in Genshin Impact. The Red Magic 9S Pro’s ability to maintain higher performance levels at all times is likely attributed to its superior cooling technology.

A closer look at the frame rates reveals that the A18 Pro on the iPhone 16 Pro Max maintained a solid 55.5 FPS in Genshin Impact, while the Android flagship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 averaged 59.9 FPS. While the difference may seem small, the Red Magic 9S Pro consistently delivered a smoother and more stable gaming experience.

How capable is the iPhone 16 Pro for perfect gaming?

To measure the actual performance of these devices, YouTuber 极客湾Geekerwan conducted extensive gaming tests. The user in question ran Genshin Impact, along with other demanding titles. These games were tested on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, older iPhones, and Android flagships. As for Android phones, Dimensity 9300+ and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 devices were also considered.

It is interesting that the smaller iPhone 16 Pro, despite using the same A18 Pro chip, achieved only 49.5 FPS and showed significantly less stable performance. This suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro may have a less efficient cooling system compared to the Pro Max model.

However, the story takes an unexpected turn with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The smaller 6.1-inch iPhone 16 achieved a surprisingly higher frame rate than its bigger sibling, the iPhone 16 Plus. This suggests that factors beyond screen size and cooling play a role in determining game performance.

It is important to say that not all Android devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 perform equally. The Xiaomi 14 Pro, despite using the same chipset, managed to achieve an average frame rate of 38.9 FPS in Genshin Impact. This difference highlights the impact of factors such as heat dissipation system design and performance optimization strategies used by different manufacturers.
