iPhone 16 Pro, primi teardown e drop test

With the arrival of the first iPhone 16 Pro, we can already discover what is hidden inside and how resistant the device is to damage and drops.

iPhone 16 Pro, the first teardown

A video published by the YouTube channel REWA Technology shows us the primo teardown dell’iPhone 16 Prorevealing interesting details about the internal hardware of the newly launched device.

One of the most important innovations is the presence of a battery enclosed in a metal casingconfirming a rumor that had been circulating since last year. The battery of theiPhone 16 Pro has a capacity of 3.582 mAhas already anticipated in a recent document filed by a Brazilian agency. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro has a battery of 3.274 mAh. This difference in capacity confirms a small but important upgrade, especially for those looking for greater autonomy.

According to Apple, some iPhone 16 batteries can be removed more easily thanks to a new adhesive that can be dissolved with a low-voltage electrical current, such as that provided by a 9V battery. However, this innovative method appears to be limited to models iPhone 16 standard e iPhone 16 Plusthus excluding the variants Pro e Pro Max. In the video, the iPhone 16 Pro still features the classic battery removal adhesive tabs, suggesting that the new removal process will be reserved for certain models only.

Apple has made changes to the internal design of all four iPhone 16 models to improve the heat dissipationa crucial feature to ensure better performance in the long run. In the video, the frame of theiPhone 16 Pro seems to have a thermal sheet larger than the iPhone 15 Pro, which should help the device cool better. Additionally, the use of metal-encased batteries could also help improve heat management.

The video also highlights a slightly more compact logic board in the iPhone 16 Pro compared to the previous model. This downsizing makes room for more components or could simply contribute to better internal organization, reducing the possibility of overheating.

It is likely that in the next few days the well-known site iFixit shares its own version of the iPhone 16 teardown, offering an even more detailed look at these hardware innovations.

iPhone 16 Pro, primi drop test

YouTuber Sam Kohl flew to Australia to be one of the first to test out the iPhone 16 Pro. In his drop testSam has detected a possible weak point in the durability of the device, related to the extremely thin frames. When the iPhone 16 Pro is dropped on its side, the impact appears to directly affect the functionality of the display, even if the screen does not crack or shatter.

Sam explained:

On the iPhone 16 Pro, I think there is a vulnerability because of the thin bezels. When you get an impact at a corner or just on that edge, the display panel is extremely fragile, much more so than it was on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Despite this perceived fragility in the display, the overall damage sustained by the iPhone 16 Pro was “much less severe” than what we observed with the 15 Pro during similar testing.

Another durability test was conducted by TechRax, which put the iPhone 16 Pro through its paces with a knife and a hammer. As expected, the results are in line with previous-generation iPhones. Using a knife on the iPhone 16 Pro’s titanium edges will scratch them over time. Hitting the back of the device with a hammer will eventually shatter the glass. And the same will happen if you hammer the display, which will also shatter the screen.

TechRax documented the entire process, confirming that the differences in durability compared to previous iPhones are not that significant.

While we await further durability and drop tests in the coming days, early results indicate that while these new Apple devices are extremely powerful, they are not completely immune to impact damage, especially given their thin bezels.

Apple has chosen a very refined and minimal design, but the reduction of the bezels seems to have a direct impact on durability, especially after falls.
