iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air May Not Come with 5x Optical Zoom Lens

It has been claimed that next year’s iPhone 17 and the brand new iPhone 17 Air smartphones will not have a 5x optical zoom lens. The ElecAccording to the news, the tetraprism camera system, which provides 5x optical zoom, will remain exclusive to next year’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. Of course, this was not a surprise, especially since the iPhone 17 Air was expected to be very thin.

On the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the tetraprism camera system has a “folded” design that allows it to fit inside smartphones and provides up to 5x optical zoom and up to 25x digital zoom on these devices. The smaller iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are limited to 3x optical zoom.

The standard iPhone 16 offers up to 2x optical quality zoom. Therefore, the iPhone 17 should at least have this as well, but zoom features for the iPhone 17 Air are still unclear. Let us remind you at this point that the device is expected to have only a single 48-megapixel rear camera.

In short, if you want the thin iPhone with the new design, some compromises will have to be made.
