Apple analyst Jeff Pu issued a note to investors regarding the iPhone 17.
According to him, the new smartphones will use a “more complex aluminum design” than the iPhone 16, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a smaller Dynamic Island cutout. The latter will be available thanks to metalens technology for the proximity sensor. This mechanical change could significantly reduce the size of the Face ID sensor.
In addition, the A19 and A19 Pro processors will be manufactured using a new 3nm N3P process compared to the N3E used for the A18 chips in the iPhone 16 models. This will allow for increased performance and improved power efficiency due to increased transistor density.
Apple won’t switch to the 2nm process until at least 2026.
Finally, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air will be the thinnest iPhone ever, even surpassing the iPhone 6, with a case thickness of 6 mm. (9to5)
