iPhone under the Christmas tree? We help you configure iOS

If your letters to Santa Claus arrived on time, there is a good chance that some of you had a brand new iPhone waiting under the Christmas tree. On this occasion, we have prepared some simple tips for you that will be useful when configuring iOS!

Setting up the new iPhone shouldn’t be a problem for anyone – especially if you already had your Apple ID. If not, there shouldn’t be any major problems – especially since in AntyWeb we also mentioned how to set up an Apple account without a card. After selecting the language, the system will efficiently guide you through the next stages, but for those who are using Apple mobile devices for the first time… and others – a few tips.

Data transfer? Not a problem, even from Android

Regardless of whether you previously used another iPhone or Android, it would be worth transferring your data. In the case of the first option, the safest option is to make a copy in iCloud on the old device – and restore it at the device configuration stage. However, if you are afraid that all your data will remain in Android and you have to transfer everything manually, then don’t worry – next to restoring from iTunes and iCloud backup, during the first configuration there is also a command Transfer data from Android. On Android, install the application Transfer to iOSrun, find the command Find your code. Enter the code on your iPhone, select the items you would like to transfer and… wait. The transfer rate depends on the speed of the Internet connection to which both devices are connected.

In this way you can transfer, among others: calendars, messages, contacts and multimedia. What’s more – if the application finds applications that you used on Android, it will also download them automatically.

Once the transfer is complete, you can start using your device, but before that, it’s worth taking a look at the options and configuring a bit.

Configure security so you don’t have to always enter your password

Newer iPhone models feature the configuration of an advanced camera system that recognizes our face – i.e. Face ID. The same applies to the configuration, which can be found in Settings under the Face ID and code tab. If you haven’t configured your appearance yet, you can do it there. This is also the place where we choose where to use this method of verification (both in applications and system elements – apart from unlocking and purchasing in the App Store, there is also Wallet and Apple Pay or filling in passwords).

After configuring Face ID, we will be able to replace constantly entering the password with fingerprints, among others. when purchasing in the App Store.

Determine what your Control Center should look like

The Control Center is a toolbar that can be pulled out from the bottom of the screen at any time. It has been available for some time, in the latest version it can finally be configured according to our wishes – and it is definitely worth using it. Do you have HomeKit-compatible modules at home? It’s worth setting an appropriate shortcut there to always have them at hand! Do you often use the timer and don’t get along with Siri? Well, even more so!

What is extremely important – since iOS 18 we can have several screens in the Control Center. To edit them and customize them according to your wishes, just launch the Control Center and then hold your finger on a free space. This is how we go to editing — and then we can remove and add shortcuts, widgets and controls. With a swipe up/down gesture we go to the next pages, where we make changes and set everything according to our needs!

Configure widgets to make your life simpler

Apple opened up about widgets several months ago – and now iPhone and iPad users can fill their home screens not only with icons, but also with widgets prepared by application creators. Adding them is child’s play – just hold your finger on the main screen until the application icons start moving – and then in the upper left corner there will be an editing command waiting for us, and after selecting it, a menu will open with commands to add widgets (as well as adjust the appearance icons and page editing when we have more of them). Importantly, add-ons added on the screen can be stacked. This will save space and give you access to subsequent layers of knowledge with the swipe of your finger.

New in the latest iOS – prepare several home screens and switch between them in a few seconds

iOS is far behind when it comes to changing screens, icons and general appearance management. For years, Apple only allowed you to change wallpapers on a locked and unlocked screen – but this year something has changed and they allow you to create several variants of home screens, between which we can switch in a moment. The icing on the cake is the issue of adding widgets, the library of which is constantly growing. How to use them? On the locked screen, just hold your finger to enter editing mode. Now we have the option to edit our current desktop as well as add more. Everything is simple, intuitive and completely hassle-free – see for yourself!

Make yourself a business card: contact poster

The latest iOS allows you to create a contact poster. That is, an individual screen that will be displayed to the users we call. When we call, our contact poster will appear on the iPhone screen of the person receiving the call. Creating a contact poster is done directly in the Contacts app. There we go to the My business card section and then to Edit. It is in this view that we choose the photo, colors and general appearance of the module.

Customize lock screen shortcuts – now it’s possible!

One of the new features that you can use with great pleasure in the new version of iOS is the customization of shortcuts on the lock screen. Previously, they were predefined and you could only have efficient access to the system camera and flashlight applications. Now we can easily adapt them to our needs. In these two places we can place a whole set of various controls. From indicating the opening of the application we have chosen installed on the device, through music recognition, alarm clock, calculator… to other devices.

To customize shortcuts on the lock screen, hold your finger on the locked screen and then use the Customize command. When we go to the view of our lock screen, in addition to changing the widgets or watch style – we can also remove shortcuts on the right and left sides right at the bottom edge of the screen. Then, using the plus symbol in the circle, we go to the menu for adding our own shortcuts. Useful, functional and… extremely effective to develop your own workflow!

Choose how you can be contacted via iMessage and FaceTime

iMessage and FaceTime are Apple instant messengers that are available only on their devices. They are integrated with the Messages application and the system dialer. Our telephone numbers, but also e-mail addresses associated with our account, can be used as an identifier on the platforms. Decide for yourself how you want to identify yourself in it. For this purpose, open it Settings i go to the tab FaceTime. There you will be able to decide how we are identified, as well as from what address/number we start a new conversation.

If you are not interested in using Apple messengers and prefer to stick to your own, proven solutions, this is no problem. You can turn them off at the very top of the tab mentioned above FaceTime, iMessage can be deselected similarly in the section next to it The news. Then we will only receive SMS messages in the characteristic green application.

Remove system apps you don’t plan to use

When you first turn on the phone, almost the entire screen will be packed with applications and system options. From Settings, through the calculator, music, e-mail, browser, stock market and iBooks. Until recently, they were impossible to touch – the only thing we could do was hide them deep in a folder that we never look at anyway. Now, however, they can be easily removed just like all other programs that we install every day from the App Store. So, just hold your finger on the icon for a while until this happens will jump and a characteristic X will appear at one of the upper edges. And if you just want to “move” them only to the Application Library because you don’t use them every day, but you would like to have quick access to them when necessary – nothing is lost. Just use the delete option from the home screen.

We hope that these few tips will help you configure and, more importantly, personalize the device you find under the Christmas tree more efficiently. For my part, I wish you fruitful use of your new smartphone and… Merry Christmas!
