Iran denies being behind attack on Trump | News

Today, Tehran again rejected suspicions that appeared this week in the American media that it could be behind the weekend’s failed assassination attempt on former American President Donald Trump. This is reported by the AFP agency with reference to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Islamic Republic categorically rejects any participation in the recent armed attack against Trump,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said. “We believe that these claims have biased political goals,” he added.

The possibility that Tehran could be behind Saturday’s attack on Trump was already rejected on Tuesday by the Iranian mission to the UN, which called these claims “baseless” and “malicious”.

Citing several unspecified sources, CNN reported on Tuesday that US intelligence services had received information in recent weeks about an Iranian plan to kill former President Trump.

Trump was shot in the ear at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the ex-president escaped with only minor injuries, but one of the spectators lost his life and two others suffered serious injuries.

Iran has repeatedly vowed in the past to take revenge for the death of Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in January 2020 in a drone attack in Baghdad on Trump’s instructions. Iran’s representation at the UN also said on Tuesday that Trump is a criminal who must be brought to justice for ordering the attack on Soleimani. But Iran is choosing the legal path to achieve justice, the representation added.
