Irina Begu qualified, on Wednesday, in the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 tournament in Palermo (Italy), endowed with total prizes of 232,244 euros, after defeating the Dutch Arantxa Rus, the fifth favorite, 6-2 , 7-5.
Begu (33 years old, 142 WTA), the 2022 champion, won after almost two hours of play (1 h 54 min).
Irina Begu is now 2-0 in head-to-head matches, after defeating the Russian (33 years old, 62 WTA) in 2013, in the first round at the Australian Open, 6-4, 6-2.
The Romanian secured a check for 5,750 euros and 54 WTA points, and in the quarters she will face the winner between the Russian Erika Andreeva and the American Ann Li.
Jaqueline Cristian, the seventh favorite, is qualified in the round of 16 in Palermo and will meet the Italian Lucia Bronzetti.
