The fact that in the summer of 2024, the Roomba Combo 10 Max robot vacuum cleaner + AutoWash docking combination, which provides its most advanced cleaning solution to date, could also mean the beginning of a new era for iRobot. This 2in1 vacuum cleaner and mopping system can set a new standard in the company’s intelligent and efficient floor care range.

Performance, design and features
The iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max is a high-end cleaning robot. Unlike traditional vacuum cleaners, there is no reason to hide this device, as the docking station itself offers a really elegant look and can be easily placed in any apartment. The docking station is covered by a clean, elegant, pleasant-to-the-touch black plastic cover, the top can practically be used as a small shelf, and the front panel can be opened easily with the help of an elegant brown leather handle. Overall, all of this gives the docking station a quality appearance. Through the door on the front, you can easily reach the container for cleaning and the dust bag drawer for changing. According to the manufacturer’s information, one bag can store approximately 60 doses of dirt – which we did not manage to fill during testing. At the bottom of the docking station are the charging contacts and a ramp that smoothly guides the robot into place.

The robot itself has a standard shape and size, with an elegant sleek black design and the familiar but discreet iRobot logo in the middle. Using the central button on the top of the robot, we can start, pause or continue work with a single touch without using an application. By holding down the main button for 5 seconds, we can give quick commands to our robot vacuum cleaner, delete a task and send it back to the base station. The circular indicator light surrounding the button also provides us with important information. The light spins white while the robot is charging, flashes white when the device is fully charged, and glows red when something is wrong.

At the bottom of the robot, in addition to the two green cleaning brush cylinders, like most robot vacuum cleaners, there is also a corner cleaning brush, the bristles of which extend beyond the side of the robot, so it is able to scrape dirt even from corners that are difficult for the robot to reach. Almost all moving parts of the robot vacuum cleaner can be easily removed for maintenance. The corner cleaning brush is held in place by a simple screw, and the cleaning cylinder can also be released with a latch, for easier cleaning. It is recommended to clean these parts by hand from time to time: remove hairs and pet hair.
A camera is located at the front of the robot, with which the device not only learns its exact location over time, but also navigates more efficiently and not only recognizes but also avoids obstacles such as cables, children’s toys, slippers, and shoes.
Commissioning
The packaging of the iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max is equipped with practical, safely designed compartments, so we can be sure that the product box will withstand all deliveries, which is particularly important for such a high-end device. After unpacking, we find the following in the package:
- the robot vacuum itself,
- docking station with dust bag prepared for deployment,
- a power cord,
- a User Manual,
- an extra filter,
- an extra dust bag,
- an extra mop head,
- and a spare corner cleaning brush.
Before the first use, it is important to find a suitable and at the same time permanent place for our robot vacuum cleaner, where the docking station, i.e. the robot’s “home”, can be permanently placed. For this, it is advisable to take the following aspects into account
- wifi coverage
- power outlet proximity
- can be placed directly next to the wall
- furthermore, it is advisable to leave about 1.2 meters of free space from the eye, so that the robot can easily leave and approach its station in any case, and it is also recommended to provide free space on both sides of the station, approx. 0.5 meters or a distance of at least 1.2 meters from the stairs.
Once the docking station is in place, all we have to do is place the robot on it, making sure that the charging contacts fit between the dock and the robot. Shortly after, the robot will “wake up” and give a pleasant jingle to let it know that it is ready for challenges.
Setting up the iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max with the iRobot HOME app
iRobot HOME application
After carefully placing the device, you can connect the Roomba Combo 10 Max to the iRobot HOME application (available on Android and iOS). If the first iRobot device arrived in your home and you have not yet downloaded this application, you must first create an iRobot account and then add the new device. Although the application is in English, it guides you through the necessary steps of the setup with a very simple graphic illustration, and at the end you can even give your newly arrived cleaning assistant your own name.
When using for the first time, the application recommends sending the robot for a mapping run. This step is optional, as the Roomba Combo 10 Max can learn your home over time even while cleaning, but a first mapping run speeds up this process. During the test, it perfectly recognized the entire apartment for us, measured the floor surfaces and marked the carpets accurately. However, we may need to help him identify the individual rooms, especially if the apartment is one-story, because then he may call the entire apartment uniformly “Living Room”, as he did with us during the test.
Send iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max to a specific zone
After the first mapping, we sent him for his first real cleaning. By then, however, he had replaced the division and naming of the rooms by himself.
Although he recognized the bathroom as a “kitchen” by himself, he successfully overcame the small threshold. By the way, it can jump thresholds up to a maximum of 1.5 cm, the robot understandably cannot cope with higher obstacles, but it would also be able to recognize the stairs in the apartment by itself, so there is no need to worry about endangering itself.
In the application, you can later rename and modify the rooms and even create cleaning plans or schedules by creating zones. On the main page of the application, you can start cleaning, create a schedule for regular work, view the robot’s cleaning history and results, showing its performance with a map. You can also access other special settings here, with which you can fine-tune the robot’s behavior as you like. We can even set zones that we want our robot to avoid in the future (NO MOP zones) or, on the contrary, to pay special attention to a specific area. We also have the option of sending it to a zone we define, if, for example, we only want to clean the bathroom with it.
What we missed from the application was that we could not track the current work process on the map, where the robot has been, where it is now or how much work is left.

A step forward in cleaning without human intervention
The Roomba Combo 10 Max also comes with iRobot’s first multi-function AutoWash dock, designed to minimize user interaction. The AutoWash is a charging, docking and cleaning station all in one. On the one hand, the docking station fills the robot vacuum itself, then pours the liquid into the water tank for mopping, and also cleans and dries the mopping pad, empties the debris and self-cleans, so the cleaning process has become more convenient, more thorough and simpler than ever before. However, this automatic emptying and self-cleaning function can take up to several minutes, which is somewhat more noisy than the actual vacuuming process, so it can even be annoying.

Improved contamination detection and intelligent navigation
The device is also equipped with improved Dirt Detect technology, which allows the robot to identify and focus on heavily polluted areas, with the help of which it has a significantly higher cleaning efficiency compared to previous models. What’s more, Roomba Combo 10 Max continuously learns with each new cleaning and also suggests the optimal cleaning plan. Based on knowledge from previous cleanings, it automatically prioritizes cleaning in each room, adjusts the suction power, the number of sessions and the intensity of wiping. This ensures that the robot can direct its main focus and strongest performance where it is most needed.

The Roomba Combo 10 Max uses a durable metal Auto-Retract mopping system that pulls the mopping pad up to the top of the robot when it detects carpet, so even long-pile carpets can stay dry. Switch seamlessly between vacuuming carpets and mopping floors.
During our multiple tests, it always washed nicely and without stains, even with plain clean water, carefully avoiding the carpets.
