Despite some reports to the contrary, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple Doesn’t Appear to Have Increased Orders for the iPhone 16. Recent earnings reports from Apple suppliers such as TSMC and Largan provide significant clues in this regard.
TSMC recently stated that it has not seen any growth in the number of units produced, while Largan said orders for 2024’s high-end models are similar to last year’s. According to Kuo, Apple’s iPhone 16 orders in the second half of 2024, they will be around 87 million units, a lower number than the 91 million iPhone 15 orders in 2023.
Kuo suggests that expectations that Apple Intelligence could drive iPhone 16 sales may be overly optimistic. Apple Intelligence will only be available in beta to U.S. users in the second half of 2024, and will only support U.S. English. Therefore, the idea that consumers will buy the new iPhone 16 just to access the Apple Intelligence beta may be overblown.
In recent weeks, Bloomberg has suggested that Apple will rely on iOS 18’s AI capabilities to boost iPhone shipments by 10% in 2024. Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or laterso customers with an older iPhone will have to opt for a new model to use the new technology.
Apple Intelligence offers a variety of features, including writing tools to correct, enhance, and summarize text, Image Playground to generate images, and Genmoji to create personalized emoji. Apple Intelligence will also be used to revamp Siri, but this new Siri feature won’t be available until 2025. In any case, none of these features will launch in Italy in 2024.
