Is income tax going up? How Bolos answers

The Minister of Finance, Marcel Boloş, claims that at the level of the Ministry of Finance, no discussions were held for the income tax to increase to 16%, nor for the VAT increase from 2025.

“There were no discussions at the MF for the income tax to increase to 16%, nor for the VAT increase from 2025. The European Commission did not give a verdict on the deficit adjustment plan, because we did not present another such plan. As I pointed out yesterday (Tuesday, no), only after he is approved in the coalition, we will go to present him in Brussels”, the minister wrote on Wednesday evening, on his Facebook page.

Marcel Boloş announced, in the context, that the Romanian authorities will present to the EC a detailed analysis regarding the system of public expenses at the level of institutions and companies with state capital, the possibility of improving the degree of collection of revenues collected from the budget, reducing the VAT gap and the continuation of the implementation of digitization measures and combating tax evasion during the budget deficit adjustment period.

At the same time, an in-depth analysis of the public revenue system will be presented, including the revenues resulting from the exploitation of natural resources and an adequate capitalization of state assets.

“We assumed that the law on combating tax evasion would be amended, so that human errors would not fall under the scope of tax evasion. Regarding the reduction of the VAT gap, we will no longer use the algorithms that have been used over time, which each time set objectives, but were not practically implemented. The current strategy is based on the data obtained from the anti-fraud modules. Thus, all our tax inspection and anti-fraud activities will be carried out digitally, not physically. We are waiting, at the beginning of next month, for the first results of the anti-fraud module, which allow us to have a global picture of the fiscal situation of each company”, the Minister of Finance also wrote on the social network.

Marcel Boloş met these days with the representatives of the Concordia Employers’ Confederation and the Coalition for the Development of Romania stating that this was a good opportunity to clarify uncertain information or aspects expressly requested by the business environment.
