Is it a laptop or a game console? Acer showed a laptop with a removable game controller – Image and sound – Science and technology

The DualPlay notebook has a removable game controller and retractable speakers built into the body. It is supposed to enhance the experience of playing video games.

At the beginning of the millennium, you would think of a gaming computer as a heavy, clumsy box with a large monitor, keyboard and mouse. The once popular LAN parties, as the gatherings of gamers whose computers were connected by multiple cables were called, brought with them many victims. The players had to find a common space to play and take with them computer sets weighing tens of kilograms. Times have changed and today desktop computers have almost completely replaced gaming laptops. Although they are heavier than normal laptops for work, they are still devices with a weight in the order of kilograms. There is also no shortage of non-traditional pieces. At the ongoing IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin, Acer presented the concept of a gaming laptop with a detachable game controller.

Project DualPlay has a built-in removable game controller, which is located in its lower part – in place of the touch surface, which is also part of it. If the controller is inserted into the laptop, its lower part replaces the touchpad. When removed, however, it contains two separate controllers, which are either connected by a central panel or can be “detached” and used separately. In addition, after removing the controller from the sides of the notebook, two 5-Watt speakers are projected to enhance the gaming experience. The manufacturer did not publish the technical details of the notebook, and he did not boast about his other plans either. DualPlay thus remains only a concept whose future is uncertain.
