Is Kadyrov dead? Russian Telegram accounts were flooded with news of his death

On Sunday, two videos appeared on his Telegram channel. In the first, he was wearing a raincoat and walking in an undisclosed location, smiling but with a swollen face, writes AFP.

In the second video, he spoke in Chechen, but later said in Russian that everyone should “do sports”. “I strongly encourage anyone who can’t tell the truth from the lies on the Internet to go for a walk, get some fresh air, and organize their thoughts,” he said in the comments accompanying the videos. “Rain can be wonderfully refreshing,” he added.

The authenticity of the videos and the time they were created could not be immediately verified or determined.

She created a frenzy message of the Ukrainian news source Obozrevatel from September 15, which, citing sources from the Chechen diaspora, says that Kadyrov has been in a coma for several days, that he was flown to Moscow, but they could not help him even there. Ukrainian intelligence spokesman Andrey Yusov confirmed to the server that Kadyrov’s old illness has worsened and that he is in critical condition.

From Thursday evening, reports of a sharp deterioration in Kadyrov’s health began to appear from various sources.

A Chechen opposition news channel on Telegram even claimed that 46-year-old Kadyrov was in a coma. Information about Kadyrov’s poor health and kidney problems caused by drug addiction have been circulating for several months.

The Agency portal pointed out that in one of the videos posted by Kadyrov, buildings reminiscent of his residence can be seen. In the footage, it is raining and the Chechen ruler is wearing a jacket, matching weather reports in the Chechen capital of Grozny. However, the agency noted that the last video of Kadyrov that could be dated was released two weeks ago. It was about the beginning of the school year.

Kadyrov has been in charge of the Chechen Republic since 2007 and has been the main supporter of the Kremlin since the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea by Russia. He also fully supported Putin’s military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, calling it a “great jihad”. He even called on Russia to deploy low-yield nuclear weapons against Ukraine.

Kadyrov’s loyalty earned him the nickname “Putin’s soldier” or “Putin’s attack dog”, the website reminds. He served as a colonel-general in the ongoing war in Ukraine; he deployed several of his fighters in the bloody battle for the city of Bachmut.

Unlike the mercenaries of Wagner’s group, his soldiers have a signed contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
