The entire Australian Olympic team was tested for the presence of the coronavirus, but only the women’s water polo team tested positive.
The AOC did not disclose the identity of the infected athletes. According to the head of the Australian mission at the Olympics, Anna Mearesová, all representatives in water polo can continue to train if their health allows it.
However, those who test positive will wear face protection and avoid busy areas in the Olympic Village. The Australian women are scheduled to play their first match on July 27 against China.
At the games in Tokyo three years ago, strict rules were in force to suppress the coronavirus pandemic, DPA reminded.
Paris has now not introduced regular mandatory testing or mandatory masks, so some experts fear a large-scale outbreak of the disease in the next two weeks.
