Back in the spring, NVIDIA presented the Blackwell design, in connection with which the DGX GB200 NVL72 rack server was presented. This includes 36 Grace CPUs and 72 B200 GPUs in a water-cooled form, and the The Information according to his report, there may be some problem with heat dissipation, which will require the cooling of some Blackwell server designs to be redesigned.
By the way, this is not an insurmountable problem, because basically the components built into the server work well by themselves, the only problem is that with the hardware configuration mentioned above, the rack server in question can consume up to 120 kW, and it is extremely difficult to dissipate such a large amount of heat in such a limited size. Probably more affected are systems where NVL72 rack servers are placed very densely, with such a design you need to think about the cooling so that the entire configuration can operate stably.
According to The Information, NVIDIA has redesigned the cooling several times, so there will certainly be a solution for customers.
