Is the future of this partnership in the balance?

Since 2006, Apple has partnered with the (RED) brand to support the The Global Fundan organization committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa. This partnership led to the creation of (PRODUCT)RED productsa series of devices and accessories marked by the color red, the purchase of which helps to finance this important cause. However, in recent years, the (PRODUCT)RED product offering has been significantly reduceddoing doubts arise on the future of this initiative.

Currently, the only latest generation device in (PRODUCT)RED color still available is theiPhone SE 3which, according to rumors, may be withdrawn from the market in March. As for the iPhone range, the model 14 represents the last version to have offered this color option, while neither iPhone 15 nor the current ones iPhone 16 received a (PRODUCT)RED version.

The same goes for the Apple Watch: the Series 9 had introduced a (PRODUCT)RED aluminum version, but this variant was not brought back for the Series 10. The red Sport Band strap was also removed from the catalogue.

A similar argument applies to Beats products, where the classic (PRODUCT)RED brand has been replaced by other variants of red, such as Statement Red e Transparent Reddepriving the range of the specific association with the Global Fund.

The gradual reduction of (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories suggests that Apple is reevaluating the strategic importance of this collaboration. It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a simple transition phase, with the red color likely to return to select products in the future.

Despite this, Apple’s commitment to The Global Fund has not failed: like every year, the company will return to support the cause with the initiative Apple Pay Donationactive since November 29th to December 8th.

(PRODUCT)RED has always represented something more than a simple color option: it is a symbol of solidarity, a way to transform a purchase into a concrete gesture of help. Reducing the offer of these products could make Apple lose part of its emotional connection with users, who often choose red to support the cause.

We hope that this phase is only temporary and that Apple will soon return to offering new (PRODUCT)REDs, perhaps expanding the range to include products such as AirPods or MacBooks. It would be nice to see a renewed commitment to such an important cause, demonstrating that technology and solidarity can still go hand in hand.
