Is Transalpina closing? Drivers advised to avoid this route

Drivers preparing to cross the Parâng massif are advised to avoid this route. On the summit, the first snow of this autumn has already fallen, and the road is covered, in some areas, with snow. Thus, if the weather phenomena intensify, Transalpina could close.

Transalpina, one of the most beautiful roads in Romania, could be closed due to the weather.

Over the weekend, it snowed on the top of the Parâng massif, and some sections of snow appeared on the road.

Is Transalpina closing?

Salvamont announced that, at altitudes of over 1,900 meters, it snowed in the Parâng massif. Also, fog formed and, on some sections of the road, poles formed.

And on the Dengherul-Cărbunele sector, the fallen snow layer is close to 5 centimeters, he states news.ro.

Therefore, drivers preparing to cross the Transalpina were advised to give up. They should either look for an alternative road route or have the car road-equipped in winter conditions.

According to mountain rescuers, the danger of ice formation on certain sections of the road is very high. And in the highest areas, drivers even encounter snow or ice on the road.

For now, the mountain rescuers have only issued a recommendation. But if the weather worsens, the authorities may decide to close the Transalpina.

Mandatory equipment, in winter, on the Transalpina

According to the law, there are several mandatory pieces of equipment that all drivers must have in their car.

Specifically, vehicles must be equipped with:

  • a medical kit
  • a fire extinguisher
  • 2 reflective triangles
  • a reflective vest(only in the case of vehicles over 3.5 tons).

But when driving on a road covered with slush, snow or ice, cars must be equipped with winter tires.

In addition, vehicles over 3.5 tons must have anti-skid chains fitted on such roads.

Therefore, drivers driving on the Transalpina, or on any other road with snow, ice or snow, are required to have these equipments. In addition, it is recommended to have other safety equipment in the vehicle.

Recommended winter equipment

Apart from the mandatory equipment that you must have in your car, there would be a number of recommended equipment. They are not mandatory, but they can help you in a difficult situation.

Equipment and components that can prove useful in certain situations:

  • spare wheel, jack and wheel wrench;
  • towing cable;
  • battery charging cable;
  • set of keys and screwdrivers;
  • adhesive tape and string;
  • engine oil, windshield washer fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid;
  • water, napkins, dry cloths, gloves;
  • skid chains, shovel, sandbag.

These can prove very useful if you get stuck with your car in a breakdown or stuck in the snow.

For the lack of mandatory equipment, the fine is up to 825 lei. But, the lack of winter tires is sanctioned with up to 3,300 lei and the withholding of the vehicle registration.
