In the summer heat, household rubbish goes bad faster in the bins. Once the garbage is emptied, small organisms form from the waste that can lead to serious infections.
According to Danish research, which TV4 wrote about, this can be a health hazard for garbage collectors.
– There are many different kinds of fungi and bacteria, and that is because waste is very varied. We also see that some of these fungi and bacteria can cause serious infections, says Anne Mette Madsenwho leads the Danish research.
So, in order to improve the working environment of garbage collectors and not cause infection, there are some things to consider when disposing of the garbage.

The research project also includes investigating whether cleaning workers get sick more than other professional groups.
– What we check are, for example, inflammation in the respiratory tract and early signs of eye irritation, says Anne Mette Madsenwho leads the Danish research.
Avoid the danger
To avoid the bacteria and protect yourself against infection as a garbage collector, you must always wear gloves during work. And not least change your clothes to minimize the risk of bringing the organisms home.
– There is more mold now and there are caterpillars, flies and very disgusting, says a cleaning worker who TV4 have talked to.
