Frauds in the form of scam calls, text messages and emails have become increasingly common. During 223, a total of 238,000 frauds were reported to the police. But at the same time, just shy of three percent of fraud crimes are solved.
Isabelle received a call from “the bank”
Nyheter24 has spoken to Isabelle who had just turned 18 when she was exposed to a fraudster who defrauded her of SEK 28,000.
– I received a call from a man who said he was from the bank. I had not too long ago turned 18 and thus become an adult. He said that I had to go from a youth account to an adult account, which I thought sounded funny since, as I said, I had just turned 18, she says.
Isabelle says that the man sounded convincing, kind and caring. But when he asked her to produce her Bankid, she became suspicious. She then tells the man that she would rather go to the bank, but he persuades her to produce her Bankid anyway.
– He says that it is good that I am suspicious but that nothing will happen and that he will only help me. Once I log in with my BankID, it’s done. Then a transfer takes place from my account and I panic, she says and continues:
– Here he also gets nervous and hangs up. Then I realize I’ve been tricked and call the police straight away. If I hadn’t gotten suspicious here, he probably would have taken all my money.

Isabelle’s case happened before the big wave of fraud, which meant that authorities and companies had not issued warnings yet. She says that the situation could have looked different if it had happened today.
But despite that, she has had to endure a lot of criticism from people around her who believe that she should have known better.
– I have received many requests about how I can be so stupid and easily deceived. That I have to blame myself for being so stupid and going for it. Then I just want to say that these people are incredibly skilled at what they do. They know exactly what to say and how to say it, she says.

The man was convicted of several frauds
Immediately after the fraud, Isabelle called the police, who, among other things, took the number from which the man had called. Shortly thereafter, the fraudster was noticed by an influencer who published his voice in a clip on Tiktok. Isabelle was then able to show the clip to the police, which she believes contributed to the investigation.
– I thought they were going to shut it down, but I’m pleasantly surprised that they found him.
The man was convicted of the fraud against Isabelle and also other frauds. Now Isabelle is waiting for her to get her money back.
