Isaltino Morais announces “natural” re-candidacy for Oeiras and highlights housing as a priority

There is still a year to go until the presidential elections, but the issue has been dominating the media sphere in recent months. The polls give favoritism to Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo, who left a possible candidacy open, but on the same starting line are António José Seguro and Luís Marques Mendes.

In an interview with SIC Notícias, Isaltino Morais highlights the qualities of Gouveia e Melo, a person who considers to have “all conditions” to win the 2026 presidential elections.

“I see many qualities. He is an organized, rigorous man, has focus, vision, tactics and strategy”, highlights the Mayor of Oeiras City Council.

He holds Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa responsible for the appearance of Gouveia e Melo who, in his opinion, presents a more institutionalized stancewhile the current President of the Republic does not spare appearances and opinions.

Isaltino Morais has no doubt that Luís Marques Mendes will be a PSD candidatebut does not look favorably the fact that Luís Montenegro chose a member of his own party.

Still within the soap opera of the presidential elections, the Chega leader announced that he will run for office to the position in Belém. For the mayor of Oeiras there is no doubt: “André Ventura’s candidacy is folkloric and populist” and it’s nothing more than a “platform to continue selling your ideas”.

“My re-application is natural”

Between the next months of September and October, the local elections and Isaltino Morais talks about the importance of presenting a good project to its residents.

“The important thing is not to win the elections, the important thing is to know what is done with the electoral results. My objective for this next term is to complete and reinforce what is an ambitious housing program.”

“My objective in the next 10 years, and I can only stay for another four years, is to build another 4,000 homes, taking advantage of the land law that will now come into force”, adds the President of the CM of Oeiras.

What dictates the approval of the new soil law?

At the beginning of the year, the Deputy Minister and Territorial Cohesion reaffirmed that the change in The soil law’s sole objective is to increase the supply of land to build housingensuring the preservation of protected areas.

A topic that generated controversy with the left to accuse the measure of being an “invitation to speculation”. For Isaltino Morais “those who talk about speculation don’t want public housing, they want poverty to remain.”

Alexandra Leitão’s candidacy for CML? A “strong bet by the PS”

Pedro Nuno Santos confirmed this Tuesday the Alexandra Leitão’s candidacy to the Lisbon City Council (CML).

“I have no doubt that it is a strong candidacy and Dr. Carlos Moedas will have to resolve some problems”, highlighted the mayor of Oeiras.
