Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says they have found the body of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, who lives in the United Arab Emirates and had been missing since Thursday. According to the statement of the office, Kogan was murdered and it was a “heinous anti-Semitic terrorist act”. TASR informs about it according to AP and Reuters reports.
“The State of Israel will act by all means to bring justice to the criminals responsible for his death,” the prime minister’s office said.
The rabbi had been missing since Thursday, with Israel confirming the information on Saturday night. His disappearance was previously reported by the Israeli media. The authorities assumed that Kogan had been kidnapped. The Israeli spy agency Mossad expressed suspicion that it was a terrorist act.
Kogan had Israeli-Moldovan citizenship and, since the end of 2020, when Israel normalized relations with the UAE, he was a member of the Chabad branch in Abu Dhabi, one of the largest Hasidic Jewish organizations in the world, writes The Times of Israel (TOI) news portal.
