Israel strikes military targets in Iran

On the night of October 26, the Israel Defense Forces launched a series of air strikes on military targets in Iran. The IDF said the bombing was a response to “months of continuous attacks” from Tehran, reports “Jellyfish».

“The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7 (2023) – on seven fronts – including direct attacks from Iranian soil. Like every other sovereign country in the world, Israel has the right and responsibility to respond,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

Air strikes were carried out in several waves from approximately 2:00 to 6:00 Moscow time. More than a hundred fighters, including F-35s, were scrambled into the air. According to Iranian media, among other things, several military bases in the Tehran region, as well as the command post of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, came under fire.

In the morning, the IDF reported the successful completion of the operation. According to intelligence services, Israeli Air Force planes carried out targeted strikes on missile production facilities in Iran, surface-to-air missile systems and “air targets designed to limit the freedom of action of Israeli aviation.”

The operation was code-named “Days of Repentance.” This is the first military operation on Iranian territory for which the Israeli authorities have officially taken responsibility. According to the IDF, there were no casualties among the Israeli military.

An Israeli government spokesman in a comment to NBC News confirmed that the IDF attack was limited to military targets and was not aimed at Iranian oil or nuclear facilities, which was previously feared by the US presidential administration. The White House described the IDF strikes as an operation “in self-defense” and in response to Iran’s Oct. 1 ballistic missile attack on Israel.

According to Axios, Israeli authorities notified the Joe Biden administration of the operation against Iran several hours before it took place. Also, the publication claims, the Israeli government, through third parties, warned Iran about the impending attacks. Axios sources say the Israeli military has made it clear to the Iranians exactly what targets it intends to attack, warning that Tehran’s retaliation could cause a more serious escalation.

Iranian authorities announced that air defense forces had successfully repelled Israeli attacks, but that there was “limited damage” in some areas. According to the Iranian military, Israeli forces attacked a number of targets in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam. There was no information about deaths or injuries in Iran.
