Israel will appeal the arrest warrants issued by the ICC against Netanyahu and Gallant
Israel has formally informed the International Criminal Court (ICC) of its intention to appeal the arrest warrants issued against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their role in the Gaza conflict.
Israel will appeal the arrest warrants issued by the ICC against Netanyahu and Gallant
The announcement was made through a statement made on Wednesday by Netanyahu’s office, cited by Reuters.
The ICC issued arrest warrants last Thursday naming Netanyahu, Gallant and Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif (Ibrahim Al-Masri), accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Netanyahu said Israel had also requested a delay in the execution of the arrest warrants as part of its legal appeal. In addition, he revealed that US Senator Lindsey Graham informed him about the legislative actions carried out in the US Congress aimed at opposing the ICC and discouraging international cooperation with this court.
This development adds to the already contentious relationship between Israel and the ICC, as well as the broader geopolitical ramifications of the court’s actions in the context of the Gaza conflict.
