Israel will attack any attempt to transport weapons from Syria to Hezbollah, the Israeli military spokesman said on Thursday, according to the Reuters agency.

“We are identifying rockets and other weapons that Hezbollah is launching against Israeli territory and that were manufactured in Syria,” Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told journalists. “We will attack all attempts to bring weapons from Syria to Hezbollah.”

Hagari added that the military has carried out air strikes from the Beirut suburbs and from the Hezbollah stronghold Dahiyeh to Damascus.

Israel confirmed Thursday’s bombings in Syria, which left 15 dead and 16 injured, and said they targeted Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a militia it accused of helping the Lebanese group Hezbollah. According to the Israeli Army, the attacks targeted “military buildings and barracks” of Islamic Jihad. The official Syrian news agency Sana reported that the attacks targeted the Mazzé neighborhood in Damascus and the city of Qudsaya, north of the capital.

The Israeli Army also claimed the death of more than 200 alleged members of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, last week, in land and air operations against southern Lebanon. According to Beirut, 3,300 Lebanese died following hostilities that began in October last year and have worsened since September.

Israel complains that, of the 3300 dead, around 2500 were members of the Hezbollah (Party of God) militias. The Israeli military also demanded the elimination, following the latest operations, of three Hezbollah commanders: one from the coastal region battalion and two from the Radwan force, one of which was from the anti-tank missile unit.

The Army also indicated that in the last week more than 140 missile launch ramps were dismantled in southern Lebanon.
