The Israeli army confirmed the attack on the Israeli capital Tel Aviv by a drone. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement: “An Iranian-made drone launched from Yemen hit a building in central Tel Aviv, killing at least one civilian and causing injuries. We will continue to work to better protect Israelis against terrorism on all fronts.” The footage of the moment the drone hit the building was also shared.
“Long-range Iranian-made UAV”
IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari said in a press conference that the UAV that reached Israel from Yemen was heading towards Tel Aviv from the sea. Hagari said that the unmanned aerial vehicle was a long-range Iranian-made Samad-3 type drone.
“The attack will be responded to”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with IDF officials, including Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, following the attack on Tel Aviv. Gallant said Israel would respond to the attack, adding, “The defense establishment is working to immediately strengthen all defense systems. We will deal with anyone who harms the State of Israel or targets it with terror.”
The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack
Tel Aviv was targeted by a drone at night, and a loud explosion was heard. It was announced that one person died and four people were injured when the drone hit a building. The initial statement from the Israeli Defense Forces stated that the explosion was caused by an “air element”, that the air element was detected, but could not be shot down by the air defense system due to “human error”. It was reported that it would be determined why the country’s air defense systems were not activated to intercept the “air element”.
The airstrike targeting Tel Aviv was claimed by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement that the Houthis attacked Tel Aviv with a “new drone that cannot be detected by radar” and that they would continue to target Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians.
