Israel’s ground operation in southern Lebanon will be ‘limited’

Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah on September 27 in air strikes targeting many regions in Lebanon, including the capital Beirut.

Israel has recently increased its air strikes against Hezbollah targets, which attacked the Gaza Strip with missiles from Lebanese territory during the ground attack it launched in October last year. It is being discussed whether Israel will launch a ground operation into Lebanese territory.

‘Israel’s operation will be limited’

According to CNN, a US official and sources close to the issue stated that the US and Israel discussed a possible land operation in Lebanon this weekend, and that it may be more limited than planned.

While it is stated that Israeli special forces crossed the Lebanese border and carried out small-scale raids, Israel’s ground operation is expected to concentrate on some regions in the south of Lebanon.

Within the scope of the operation, an operation is expected to be carried out in the regions remaining in the ‘Blue Line’ determined by the United Nations years ago.

Lebanon may send army to the south

Currently, Israel only hits Hezbollah targets, there are no attacks against the Lebanese army. Against Israel’s land operation plan, Lebanese Prime Minister Necip Mikati said that they were ready to send the army to the south of the Litani River in the south of the country.

Drawing attention to the resolution 1701 of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 2006, Mikati said: “We are ready to implement the resolution 1701 of the UNSC. After the ceasefire is achieved, we will continue to carry out our duties in coordination with the United Nations Interim Peace Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). “We are ready to send the army south of the Litani River.”
