The Swedish forest group leaving Estonia sent an offer to local large companies to buy an unprecedented amount of forest. Among the larger private forest owners, there were immediately those who are ready to seriously consider the purchase.
The Swedish forest group Södra plans to put more than 150,000 hectares of forest land up for sale in the Baltics, the company announced on Monday. They are mostly located in Latvia. In Estonia, a buyer is looking for 17,500 hectares of forest land, but in terms of the local market, it is a large piece. “It certainly creates excitement here,” said Metsagrupi owner Urmas Rahnel.
“During the last ten years, there have not been so many hectares for sale at once,” confirms Martin Tishler, head of the forestry company Tornator Estonia. “Thousands have still happened, but so much at once is a long time ago, and it is rather a big deal now.”
