The company HMD presented a new phone at the beginning of the year, a model with the name Key. It is a basic device designed for users who are just getting started with smartphones and looks like an ideal first mobile phone for a child. It is one of the cheapest phones available today and is already on sale in selected markets.
HMD Key – Cheap but elegant
The HMD Key is an extremely cheap phone, but in terms of design, it’s a pretty good piece. On the back there is a rectangular camera module with rounded corners, and the structure with basic IP52 protection is of course all plastic. The back is treated with a decent texture, the frame is flat and thick, the inner frame around the display indicates inclusion in the lowest levels of the mobile world.

A cheap base on all fronts
The display with a diagonal of 6.52 inches is really basic and combines IPS technology with HD resolution and a frequency of 60 Hz. Its maximum brightness can reach 460 nits. The Unisoc 9832E processor takes care of the drive, so there is no 5G support and you will have to rely on the 4G network. The operating memory then offers a capacity of 2 GB of RAM and a virtual extension of another 2 GB.
It is also possible to expand the internal storage of 32 GB in the form of a microSD card. The camera on the back has a resolution of 8 Mpx, has automatic focus, and the selfie camera offers a resolution of 5 Mpx. The battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh is complemented by 10W fast charging and the phone runs on Android 14 in the Go version, to which the manufacturer has promised two years of security patches on a quarterly basis.
Price and availability
HMD Key is already sold in a few selected markets and is available in blue (Icy Blue) and black (Midnight Black). From Europe it is available for purchase in England and we will see if it expands to other European markets. The price of this new product after conversion is around 1,800 crowns without VAT, making it one of the cheapest phones today.
