It was found out what happened, in fact, in the VIP area of the National Arena, at the match Romania – Kosovo in the League of Nations. A Serbian fan had a flag of the country on him, with which he inflamed the spirits.
The guests, led by captain Amir Rrahmani, left for the locker room, although there were only two minutes left to play. Nothing could convince them to come back, which is why the referee blew the final whistle, with UEFA making the decision.
The Kosovars revealed what happened in the VIP area at the match with Romania. It all started with a Serbian fan
According to Driton Latifi, one of the Kosovar journalists who were present at this game, there were not only Romanian but also Serbian supporters in the stands. The latter constantly chanted provocative slogans.
“Of course, there were some Serbian fans in the stadium. We had a Serbian fan in front of us at the VIP area. It came with a flag of Serbia. They provoked all the time”, he declared for botasot.info.
Moreover, the Romanian Gendarmerie later announced that four Serbian fans were detained because they were wearing T-shirts with messages prohibited by the organizer, in this case the Romanian Football Federation, in accordance with UEFA regulations.
“We deny the information that appeared in the public space stating that “four Serbian fans were arrested by the Romanian Police for wearing T-shirts with the messages Bessarabia e Romania and Kosovo e Serbia”.
We mention the fact that materials with the distinct message “Bessarabia is Romania” were not made available, and the materials with the message “Kosovo e Serbia” were deposited in the room of prohibited objects, as they are not allowed in the sports arena by the organizer of the event, in accordance with the Regulation Uefa. We underline the fact that the persons in question were not “arrested”, they were taken to the police station in order to establish their identity”, the press release states.
Kosovars, proud of their reaction: “We did the right thing”
In other news, the Kosovar players do not regret at all the decision to leave the field in extra time of the match with Romania. Vedat Muriqi even appeared proud, adding that both he and the other colleagues were “emotionally and morally” affected.
“We are proud in general. I can say we are proud. We made the right decision at that time because we were touched emotionally and morally. As footballers, we closed the chapter.
We trained well for four, five days, we had a good game. I went to Romania with the mentality and enthusiasm that I had from the first match. I went for the win. We were not lucky to score.
If Edoni or I had scored at the start, it would have been a different game. We hope and strongly believe that we will continue like this,” said the 30-year-old striker at the press conference ahead of the duel with Lithuania in the last stage of the Nations League.
