It is neither habitable nor a camper, but Nissan has pulled out a van that is much nicer than my living room.

In the world of caravanning there are camper vans, caravans and motorhomes for all tastes, and that is precisely part of their charm. Whether small or large, more modern or less there is a solution for every camper. And the Nissan Caravan MyRoom is one of the most original you can find in Japanby concept and by design.

It is a van converted into a luxury hotel room on wheels, only without details that for many will be essential… like a toilet or a kitchen. The Caravan MyRoom was presented at the 2022 Tokyo Motor Show and last year it was launched on the Japanese market in the form of limited edition. Now, is already part of the catalogue from Nissan.

Features of the Nissan Caravan MyRoom: a very original camper van

Both the Nissan Caravan Mountain Base como la Nissan Cravan MyRoom were two of the most anticipated new products at the 2022 Tokyo Motor Show: two very interesting concepts for lovers of camper vans and the lifestyle that surrounds this type of vehicle, which has been so popular in recent years. More so in Japan, where you can find some of the most original ones.

Both camper vans, although very different from each other, are based on the Nissan Caravan, a model that is already legendary in Japan. who just turned 50 years old. And if the Mountain Base is more similar to the most widespread mid-size camper vans, MyRoom is something else.

As Nissan Japan explains, MyRoom is aimed at “customers who want to feel like they are in an extraordinary space while they are busy with their daily life” and “feel comfortable while being in contact with nature.”

That is, this model was developed “as a vehicle that allows you to take your room into nature and relax, with the aim of creating a new category of car that had never existed before.”

To create a pleasant and welcoming feeling with a minimalist style, in the purest Japanese style, the Nissan Caravan MyRoom cabin is dominated by wood. Light in colour and with a grained finish, it seeks to eliminate the “feeling of being inside a car” and create a sophisticated atmosphere reminiscent of a hotel room with a simple and clean design, according to the brand.

With modular furniture such as the bed and the folding table, the interior of the van can be arranged in ‘living room mode’, ‘bedroom mode’ or ‘dining room mode’:

  • Los 2nd row 2-in-1 seats They can be easily arranged to suit your needs: with cushions of different hardness on the front and rear sides of the seat, they feel firmer when driving, but if you turn them to the rear seat side when camping, they are comfortable and soft like a sofa. And if you open the tailgate, you can relax while enjoying the scenery.
  • Hay Two types of beds to choose from: folding bed or folding bed, both upholstered in quality fabric with an elegant herringbone pattern. The folding bed can be unfolded in one movement, and even if you let go of it, it will fall gently, while the folding bed is divided into two, so you can arrange it however you like.
  • The table can be fixed in any position or removed, allowing you to use it as needed. By combining the 2-in-1 seats and the sliding tables, you can spend time in peace as if you were in your own room, which is also helped by the windows protected by curtains and slatted blinds. And if you need to charge your electronic devices, the MyRoom has a Recycled battery from the Nissan Leaf.
  • Other details worth highlighting include the imitation wood ceiling panel with recessed LED lighting, the ambient lighting on the sides, the roll-up screen to create a private mini-cinema with a projector, and the closed shelves and drawers for storing items.

As for the exterior of the Nissan Caravan MyRoom (available in four colours, including an exclusive cream colour), it features special elements such as a prominent black grille, matching the door handles and wing mirrors, and specific rims. ‘MyRoom’ stickers on the window and rear door complete the discreet look.

However, this peculiar camper van lacks a kitchen, shower, toilet… everything that is usually considered to make a van “truly habitable”. However, it does have a bed, a sofa and a table to work on, and anyone who wants to can get hold of these types of portable elements.

However, we must remember that the idea is not to “live in it” or go on long trips, but to escape from routine and spend the day in the world, get in touch with nature and sleep under the stars for just one night. It is a comfortable refuge, with enough energy to work a whole day on the laptop in the forest.

The model is now available in Japan from 5,958,700 yen (37,653 euros at the current exchange rate) current) of the entry-level version with folding bed, at 7,140,100 yen (45,118 euros) that the most complete version equipped with folding bed and all the extras costs.

At least for now we won’t see anything like that in Europe, although Nissan’s “MyRoom” concept will be extended throughout its range available in its home market: President Makoto Uchida himself has already announced the imminent arrival of the model “NV200 Vanette MYROOM“, which is expected in the coming months.
