According to a rumor from TikTok, it would be possible to drive without a license since August 1st. However, this is obviously false.
As we know, to be allowed to drive, it is absolutely essential to pass your driving test.
No more need for a permit?
This may seem obvious, but it is always useful to remember it, because it seems that it is not for everyone. We are obviously not only talking about motorists who knowingly decide to drive even after their precious sesame has been withdrawn. And for good reason, a rumor has been spreading for a few days, on the fact that it would now be possible to take the road even if you do not have the little pink slip. Indeed, and according to some viral videos on TikTok, it would now be possible to drive without a license in France. But as you can imagine, all of this is of course absolutely not true, to the great displeasure of all those who hoped to be able to take the wheel without going through the driving school box. But then, where does this astonishing rumor come from? In fact, several videos published on the social network claim that this alleged decision of the French government would be inspired by the Belgian model. There, it is indeed possible for some to drive with a provisional license before taking the final exam.
A rumor denied
However, this situation is misinterpreted in the videos, which wrongly suggest that Belgian drivers can drive without any form of license. Which is obviously not true at all, because only Belgian drivers Motorists over 17 years old are allowed to do so, and only by respecting certain very strict rules. For example, driving is prohibited between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., as well as on weekends and public holidays. According to the videos, the government has decided to no longer make a license mandatory in order to ease the long queues before taking the test. However, this is obviously false, even if it is true that waiting times are often very long, particularly in the Île-de-France region. It should be noted, however, that it is possible to drive cars designed for this purpose without a license, while it is now possible to take the wheel from the age of 17 once you have obtained the precious sesame. Going to a driving school is therefore strictly mandatory.
Don’t be fooled by this totally false rumor!
