Slovan agreed on a contract with him until the end of the ongoing season with a subsequent option. He should be available as a coach from the next home match against the reigning champion from Nitra.
Peterek won the Czech junior extra league in the 2018/19 season in the Třinac jersey. As an 18-year-old, he made his debut in the extra league.
In the summer of 2019, he moved overseas and played a season in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Calgary Hitmen and Kelowna Rockets. After returning to Třinec, he started regularly in the farming team in Frýdek-Místek.
“Jonáš Peterek is still a young promising player who already has experience from the youth world championship, Canadian junior, Finland, as well as the highest Czech competition.
He is the type of player who is tall, very physically fit and physically fit. It can be valid on both sides of the rink. I believe that he will do well with us,” said general manager Lukáš Havlíček for the club’s official website.
Peterek will arrive in Bratislava on Wednesday and will immediately join the first team training session. He chose the number 95 jersey.
Slovan perceives the arrival of the young Czech striker as an alternative to revive their offensive and increase competition in the positions of central strikers as well as wings.
Before the 2022/23 season, the twenty-three-year-old forward decided to try out in Finland, more precisely in the second highest Mestis competition. He spent the first season in the Hermes team from Kokkola.
In 51 games of the regular season, he scored 39 points for 18 goals and 21 assists. The following season, he moved to the JoKP team from the city of Joensuu, for which he managed to play 14 matches with a balance of 7 goals and 11 assists.
After leaving Finland, he played regularly for HC Vítkovcie RIDERA from November 2023, scored three goals in 34 matches and also provided six assists.
Jonáš is the son of the current sports director of HC Oceláři Třinec and former player Jan Peterek, who between 1989 and 2014 played more than 1,200 league matches in the Czechoslovak, Czech and Russian top leagues.
